"The true dwelling of kings, the house of the centuries."
With more than 1500 rooms spread over 130 hectares of park and gardens, Fontainebleau is the only royal and imperial castle inhabited continuously for seven centuries. To visit Fontainebleau is to benefit from an exceptional presentation of French history, art history and architecture.
Caste of Vaux le Vicomte
The largest private monument in France
Since its creation in the seventeenth century, the estate has belonged to four successive families. Private residence and house before being opened to the public in 1968, the castle has kept an inhabited soul, inviting each visitor as a benevolent host.
The visit of the castle is organized on four levels, furnished and decorated as if Nicolas Fouquet and his family had recently left the place. Vaux-le-Vicomte is one of the few decorations left intact since the 17th century.
Created at the end of 2009, the Cartonnerie is a year-round leisure equipment, designed from the conversion of a former cardboard factory (built in the early 1960s, its activity ceased in 2001).
This complex includes an ice rink, a cinema with 10 rooms, restaurants, karting and a bowling alley, all with free parking of more than 1,800 places.
